The Joyful Mysteries

The Annunciation

  1. Thou art all fair, O my love, and there is not a spot in thee (Canticles 4). “Hail Mary,” etc.
  2. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day of thy creation (Ezechiel 28). One is My dove, My perfect one is but one (Canticles 6). “Hail Mary,” etc.
  3. Hearken, O daughter, and see and incline thy ear … and the King shall greatly desire thy beauty, for He is the Lord thy God (Psalm 44).
  4. Behold the joy that cometh to thee from God! (Baruch 4).
  5. Behold the Lord God shall come! (Isaiaa 40).
  6. Thine eyes shall see the King in His beauty (Isaias 33).
  7. My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. Because He hath regarded the humility of His handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. Because He that is mighty hath done great things to me, and holy is His name (Luke 1).
  8. Joy is come upon me from the Holy One (Baruch 4).
  9. I will be glad and rejoice in Thee: I will sing to thy name, O Thou Most High (Psalm 9).
  10. I will rejoice in the Lord: and I will joy in God my Jesus (Habacuc 3).

The Visitation

  1. Let us love one another, for charity is of God (1 John 4).
  2. Let us not love in word nor in tongue, hut in deed and in truth (1 John 3).
  3. Loving one another with the charity of brotherhood, with honour preventing one another, communicating to the necessities of the saints (Romans 12).
  4. Rejoice with them that rejoice, weep with them that weep. Not minding high things, but consenting to the humble (Romans 12).
  5. Freely have you received, freely give (Matthew 10).
  6. According to thy ability be merciful. If thou have much give abundantly (Tobias 4).
  7. He gave to every one of them commandment concerning his neighbour (Ecclesiasticus 17).
  8. Every one shall help his neighbour, and shall say to his brother: Be of good courage (Isaias 41).
  9. Hast thou heard a word against thy neighbour, let it die within thee. And believe not every word. There is one that slippeth with the tongue, but not from the heart. For who is there that hath not offended with the tongue? (Ecclesiasticus 19).

The Nativity of Our Lord

  1. Lo, this is our God; we have waited for Him and He will save us.… we have patiently waited for Him; we shall rejoice and be joyful in His salvation (Isaias).
  2. This is God, our God, unto eternity and for ever and ever (Psalm 47).
  3. In Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead corporally (Colossians 2).
  4. O God, how great are Thy works, Thy thoughts are exceeding deep (Psalm 91).
  5. Truly Thou art a hidden God, the God of Israel, the Saviour (Isaias 45).
  6. Thou alone art my King and my God (Psalm 40).
  7. The eternal King of worlds (Tobias 13).

The Presentation of Our Lord at the Temple

  1. Who will grant that my request may come and that God may give me what I look for? (Job 6).
  2. Hear my prayer, O Lord, and my supplication, give ear to my tears (Psalm 58).
  3. The Lord is my portion … therefore will I wait for Him (Lamentations 3).
  4. Expect the Lord, do manfully, and let thy heart take courage, and wait thou for the Lord (Psalm 20).
  5. Delight in the Lord, and He will give thee the requests of thy heart (Psalm 30).
  6. The Lord waiteth that He may have mercy on thee.… blessed are all they that wait for Him (Isaias 30).
  7. I am sent to thee, thou man of desires (Daniel 10).
  8. With expectation I have waited for the Lord, and He was attentive to me (Psalm 39).
  9. Art thou not the Lord our God whom we have looked for? (Jeremias 14).
  10. The Lord is good to them that hope in Him, to the soul that seeketh Him. It is good to wait with silence for the salvation of God (Lamentations 3).

The Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple

  1. Therefore do I weep, and my eyes run down with water, because the Comforter, the relief of my soul, is far from me (Lamentations 1).
  2. My tears have been my bread day and night, whilst it is said to me daily: Where is thy God? (Psalm 41)
  3. But if I go to the left hand I shall not take hold on Him: if I turn myself to the right hand, I shall not see Him (Job 23).
  4. But He knoweth my way, and has tried me as gold that passeth through the fire. My foot hath followed His steps … and the words of His mouth I have hid in my bosom (Job 23)
  5. I will rise and go about the city: in the streets and the broad ways I will seek Him whom my soul loveth: I sought Him and I found Him not (Canticles 3).
  6. The watchmen who kept the city found me: Have you seen Him whom my soul loveth? (Canticles 3)
  7. When I had a little passed by them, I found Him whom my soul loveth: I held Him: and I will not let Him go (Canticles 3).
  8. I sat down under His shadow whom I desired (Canticles 2).
  9. Show me Thy face, let Thy voice sound in my ears, for Thy voice is sweet and Thy face comely (Canticles 2).
  10. My Beloved to me and I to Him … Till the day break and the shadows retire (Canticles 2).


The Sorrowful Mysteries

The Agony in the Garden

  1. Believe God and He will recover thee (Ecclesiasticus 2).
  2. Wait on God with patience, join thyself to God and endure (Ecclesiasticus 2).
  3. Take all that shall be brought upon thee; and in thy sorrow endure, and in thy humiliation keep patience (Ecclesiasticus 2).
  4. For He woundeth and cureth; He striketh and His hands shall heal; refuse not therefore the chastising of the Lord (Job 5).
  5. It is the Lord, let Him do what is good in His sight (1 Kings 3).
  6. If it be not He, who is it, then? (Job 9) Shall not my soul be subject to God? (Psalm 61). I will bear the wrath of the Lord because I have sinned against Him (Micheas 7).
  7. I am ready, let Him do what is good before Him (2 Kings 15).
  8. Do with me, O Lord, according to Thy Will (Tobias 3).
  9. Do all that seemeth good in Thy eyes (1 Kings 14).
  10. Teach me to do Thy Will, for Thou art my God (Psalm 142).

The Scourging at the Pillar

  1. I looked for one that would grieve together with me, but there was none: and for one that would comfort me, and I found none (Psalm 68).
  2. There is no one that hath regard to my soul (Psalm 141).
  3. Friend and neighbour thou hast put far from me, and my acquaintance, because of misery (Psalm 87).
  4. My familiar friends are departed from me (Job 6).
  5. I looked on my right hand and beheld, and there was none that would know me (Psalm 141).
  6. They that knew me have forgotten me … and he whom I loved most is turned against me (Job 19).
  7. I am forgotten as one dead from the heart (Psalm 30).
  8. O all ye that pass by the way, attend and see if there be any sorrow like to my sorrow (Lamentations 1).
  9. Have pity on me, have pity on me, at least you my friends, for the hand of the Lord hath touched me (Job 19).
  10. Attend to my supplication, for I am brought very low (Psalm 141).

The Crowning with Thorns

  1. God hath delivered me into the hands of the wicked (Job 16).
  2. My enemies have surrounded me: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth (Psalm 16).
  3. They have opened their mouths upon me, and reproaching me, they have struck me on the check (Job 16).
  4. I am made a derision to all my people (Lamentations 3).
  5. They abhor me, and are not afraid to spit in my face (Job 30).
  6. I am turned in my anguish whilst the thorn is fastened (Psalm 31).
  7. I shall not lift up my head, being filled with affliction and misery (Job 10).
  8. My shame is before me: and the confusion of my face hath covered me (Psalm 43).
  9. O my people, what have I done to thee, or in what have I molested thee: Answer thou me. (Micheas 6).
  10. The Lord hath cast down and hath not spared all that was beautiful (Lamentations 2).

The Carrying of the Cross

  1. Christ suffered for us leaving you an example that you should follow His steps (1 Peter 2).
  2. If any man will come after Me, let him denv himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me (Luke 9).
  3. He that taketh not up his cross and followeth Me, is not worthy of Me (Matthhew 10).
  4. The disciple is not above the master, nor the servant above his lord (Matthhew 10).
  5. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord (Matthhew 10).
  6. Come to Me all you that labour and are burdened, and I will refresh you (Matthew 11).
  7. Take up My yoke upon you and learn of Me because I am meek and humble of heart, and you shall find rest to your souls (Matthew 11).
  8. Master, I will follow Thee whithersoever Thou shalt go (Matthew 8).
  9. Go whither thou wilt and I will be with thee (1 Kings 14).
  10. In what place soever thou shalt be, lord my king, either in death or in life, there will thy servant be (2 Kings 15).

The Crucifixion and Death of Our Lord

  1. God so loved the world as to give His Only-begotten Son that whosoever believcth in Him may not perish but may have everlasting life (John 3).
  2. If thou didst know the gift of God! (John 4) You were not redeemed with corruptible things, as gold and silver, but with the precious Blood of Christ (1 Peter 1).
  3. You are not your own for you are bought with a great price (1 Corinthians 5).
  4. Christ hath loved us and hath delivered Him self for us (Ephesians 5).
  5. Loved us and washed us from our sins in His own Blood (Apocalypse 1).
  6. Loved me and delivered Himself for me (Galatians 2).
  7. Who, then, shall separate us from the love of Christ? (Romans 8).
  8. The Lamb that was slain is worthy to receive power, and divinity, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and benediction (Apocalypse 5).
  9. If any man love not our Lord Jesus Christ, let him be anathema (1 Corinthians 16).


The Glorious Mysteries

The Resurrection

  1. God hath both raised up the Lord, and will raise up us also by His power (1 Corinthians 6).
  2. Know you not that your bodies are the members of Christ? Glorify and bear God in your body (1 Corinthians 6).
  3. We look for that life which God will give to those that never change their faith from Him (Tobias 2).
  4. We are now the sons of God; and it hath not yet appeared what we shall be. We know that when He shall appear we shall be like to Him, because we shall see Him as He is (1 John 3).
  5. If we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them who have slept through Jesus will God bring with Him (Thessalonians 4).
  6. Wherefore expect Me, saith the Lord in the day of My Resurrection that is to come.… In that day thou shalt not be ashamed for all thy doings wherein thou hast transgressed against Me.… The Lord will rejoice over thee with gladness, He will be silent in His love, He will be joyful over thee in praise (Sophonias 3).
  7. In that day you shall see the difference between the just and the wicked: between him that serveth God, and him that serveth Him not (Malachias 3).
  8. Fight the good fight of faith; lay hold on eternal life whereunto thou art called (1 Timothy 6).
  9. Keep yourselves in the love of God (Jude 1). And wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, Jesus who hath delivered us from the wrath to come (1 Thessalonians 1).
  10. I know that my Redeemer liveth, and in the last day I shall rise out of the earth. And I shall be clothed again with my skin, and in my flesh I shall see my God, Whom I myself shall see, and my eves shall behold, and not another: this my hope is laid up in my bosom (Job 19).

The Ascension into Heaven

  1. In My Father’s House there are many mansions. I go to prepare a place for you. If I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to Myself that where I am you also may be (John 14).
  2. Whither I go you know and the way you know (John 14).
  3. If you be risen with Christ seek the things that are above (Colossians 3).
  4. Mind the things that are above where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. When Christ shall appear who is your life, then you also shall appear with Him in glory (Colossians 3).
  5. Yet a little while and a very little while and lie that is to come, will come, and will not delay (Colossians 3)
  6. Behold, He cometh with the clouds, and every eye shall see Him (Apocalypse 1).
  7. Behold, I come quickly, and My reward is with Me to render to every man according to his works (Apocalypse 22).
  8. Behold, I come quickly, hold fast that which thou hast, that no man take thy crown (Apocalypse 3).
  9. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life (Apocalypse 2).
  10. Surely I come quickly Amen. Come, Lord Jesus (Apocalypse 22).

The Descent of the Holy Ghost at Pentecost

  1. O children of Sion, rejoice and be joyful in the Lord your God; because He hath given you a teacher of justice (Joel 2).
  2. Desire of Him to direct thy ways, and that all thy counsel may abide in Him (Tobias 4).
  3. Today if you shall hear His voice harden not your hearts (Psalm 94).
  4. Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God (Ephesians 4).
  5. Who hath resisted Him and hath had peace? (Job 9).
  6. The Spirit of the Lord shall come upon thee and thou shalt be changed into another man (1 Kings 10).
  7. Cast me not away from Thy face, and take not Thy holy Spirit from me (Psalm 50).
  8. Give to Thy servant an understanding heart (3 Kings 3).
  9. Give me wisdom that sitteth by Thy throne (Wisdom 9).
  10. Send her out of Thy holy heaven, and from the throne of Thy Majesty, that she may be with me, and may labour with me, that I may know what is acceptable with Thee (Wisdom 9).

The Assumption of Our Blessed Mother into Heaven

  1. For Thee my soul hath thirsted, for Thee my flesh, O how many ways (Psalm 62). When shall I come and appear before the face of God (Psalm 41). Who will give me the wings of a dove, and I will fly away and be at rest? (Psalm 54).
  2. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints (Psalm 110).
  3. May my soul die the death of the just, and my last end be like unto theirs (Numbers 23).
  4. God will show His brightness in thee, to every one under heaven (Baruch 5).
  5. Thou shalt no more have the sun for thy light by day, neither shall the brightness of the moon enlighten thee, for the Lord shall be unto thee for an everlasting light, and thy God for thy glory (Isaias 60).
  6. Thou shalt be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God (Isaias 62).
  7. Go in to the King, and entreat Him for thy people. Who knoweth whether thou art not therefore come to tho kingdom that thou mightest be ready in such a time as this (Esther 4).
  8. Do thou speak to the King for us, and deliver us from death (Esther 15).
  9. And she said to the King: I desire one small petition of Thee. And the King said to her: My Mother ask for I must not turn away thy face (3 Kings 13).
  10. She spoke to Him all that she had in her heart. And the King give her all that she desired and asked of Him (3 Kings 10).

The Coronation of Our Lady, Queen of Heaven

  1. Thousands of thousands minister to Him who sits upon the throne, and a hundred times a hundred thousand stand before Him (Daniel 7).
  2. I saw a great multitude which no man could number, of all nations, and tribes, and peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and in sight of the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands (Apocalypse 7).
  3. And a great sign appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars (Apocalypse 12).
  4. And the King arose to meet her, and bowed to her, and sat down upon his throne, and a throne was set for the King’s mother, and she sat on his right hand (3 Kings 2).
  5. Well done, good and faithful servant (Matthew 25).
  6. Come, ye blessed of My Father, possess you the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world (Matthhew 25).
  7. My Mother, ask, for I must not turn away thy face (3 Kings 2)
  8. And the King gave the queen all that she desired and asked of Him, besides what He offered her of Himself of His royal bounty (3 Kings 10).
